Kids at Hope
At Whittier School, we embrace the Kids at Hope philosophy that all children are capable of success. NO EXCEPTIONS!
As adults, we have the power to support our students and help link them to successful futures. Working alongside parents, we can provide the following Aces of Success to students:
- Ace of Hearts = Anchor or Parent
- Ace of Clubs = Other Caring People
- Ace of Spades = High Expectations
- Ace of Diamonds = Opportunities for Success
This is the person who takes responsibility for the student’s emotional and physical well-being 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We know parents are a child’s first teacher, and we appreciate the positive and powerful impact you have in your child’s life.
Students need other caring adults to step up and provide support. Staff members work to develop rapport with students, identify unique talents/skills, and be a source of support so students feel comfortable seeking out advice or assistance.
Because we believe all children are capable of success, we set high academic and behavioral expectations for students and we support them in meeting those expectations. We help students see their own potential and believe in themselves as much as we believe in them.
We recognize and help facilitate opportunities for children to be successful. This includes multiple forms of recognition including but not limited to behavioral, academic, artistic, athletic, and improvement.
The following pledges capture our beliefs about kids and our commitments as adults:
I am a Kid at Hope.
I am talented, smart & capable of success.
I have dreams for the future and I will climb to reach those goals & dreams everyday.
All Children are Capable of Success, No Exceptions!
Treasure Hunter’s Pledge
